WordCamp US Recap

WordCamps

We’re back from WordCamp US and excited to share a brief recap of the entire event. From the time our plane landed in Nashville, to packing up and flying out, we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the event. Let’s go over several of the key highlights!

This year at WordCamp US, we gave out limited edition Hatch Show Prints. These prints are hand-printed using a similar type of printing press to the one Gutenberg invented.

Each letter and symbol has to be carved out of wood. It was exciting for us to see BoldGrid logo carved into its own wooden symbol to be used on the prints.

We also had an instant win giveaway going throughout the entire event. Everyone is a winner with this type of giveaway, so we gave away a lot of awesome swag.

Not only did we manage our booth, but, as some of our team members were  WordPress volunteers, we played double duty and served attendees at the Make WordPress booth.

WordCamp Sessions

With over 35+ sessions, this WordCamp brought a lot of valuable information that attendees could learn. We were very privileged to have our very own Nicole Paschen Caylor give a session on teaching children how to code and get into development. Nicole has personally worked with her own children to teach them to code and has seen great success.

We’re very thankful to have Nicole on our team, and we cherish her enthusiasm in passing along the love of coding and development to the next generation.

Another session that stood out was the “State of the Word” by Matt Mullenweg. This was an exciting time for it as WordPress 5.0 had just released the day before the start of conference.

Mullenweg started the keynote off by sharing the story of how Gutenberg was founded: from a need for an improved editing experience within WordPress. As the session came to a close Matt shared how, in less than two days, over 2,354,502 people had already upgraded to WordPress 5.0. That’s quite an impressive number of upgrades in less than 48 hours.

Takeaways

This is only the beginning of WordPress 5.0 and the new editor. And soon, many more features and blocks will be available. We are excited about Gutenberg and recently released an update across all of our plugins so they can fully support Gutenberg and WordPress 5.0. We want to make sure you can continue to be BOLD when it comes to building your website using the powerful tools of BoldGrid and WordPress.

As we packed up and reflected on the entire weekend, we realized how special and unique the WordPress community really is. Without them, we truly wouldn’t be who we are today.
